Death Penalty for Man Who Killed Two, One at MGM Grand, a Possibility
A man faces the death penalty in Nevada after wantonly killing two people in what was a premeditated act, prosecutors argue Unflatteringly dubbed the “sex murderer,” Dandre Owensmay face the death penalty in Nevada. This marks a rare development, as the state has not executed a prisoner since 2006. Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordaniconfirmed that prosecutors are considering seeking the heaviest possible punishment for Owens, who is accused of killing two people, one of them at the MGM Grand. Owens is accused of murdering a woman at the MGM Grandafter having intercourse with her, while gunning down a man he lured into the desert and leaving his body there for months before it was discovered. He faces charges of kidnapping, murder, and robbery. The prosecutors have pieced together the timeline of the crime, with the first victim, one Britanni Bailey, shot at the back of the head in a hotel room early last year. The other victim, Edward Kukish, was lured into the desert, thinking he was responding to a professional call. He was shot in the head twice, and his belongings were ngaken from him by the suspect, the prosecutors allege. Kukish’s body was discovered in August 2024, but the actual killing was committed in Januarythat same year. Owens, for his part, has denied wrongdoing and has maintained his innocence. Should prosecutors convince the court of his guilt, the death penalty could be applied in theory. Nevada administers the death penalty through lethal injection only.
